I like reading historical fiction. European historical fiction. I read the first Genghis Khan novel by Conn Iggulden. It was pretty compelling stuff. How the mongols lived, what a hardy people they were, their skill as horsemen and with the bow on horseback , what a tough character the young Temuchin was. It was a brutal unforgiving world he grew up in. By the end of the book he had become a powerfull warlord. So I was ready to get the second book out of the library and I’m glad I didn’t pay for it because I gave up after the first chapter.
The first book was different because it dealt with Temuchin when he and his fatherless family were outcasts struggling to survive in an unforgiving landscape. By the start of the second book he was Genghis Khan crushing another tribe into submission with a large army at his back. I didn’t want to read anymore. The mongols were unmatched at making war back then. But that’s all they excelled at. Civilization building was not their thing so their enormous land empire was rather wasted on them. The first book was interesting for its against the odds human element but after that I wasn’t interested in reading about Asians defeat and conquer other Asians. I had no sympathy for the book’s main character .
I prefer stories about Romans, Celts, Vikings, Saxons, Napoleonic times. There’s a huge market for this stuff. British schoolchildren are not taught much about the real history of their people these days but there is still a big interest which is reflected by the bestselling novels which deal with stuff like the Romans in Britain, Alfred the Great or Viking adventures across Western and Eastern Europe.
Its also reflected by enthusiasts who recreate famous battles by dressing up in their Saxon/ Norman/Viking wargear. This is an exclusively white activity. And I don’t think that’s because they have a whites only policy. That would certainly not be allowed in today’s Britain. The non whites simply are not interested in this stuff.
Still it probably raises the hackles of Trevor Phillips or Darkus Howe. A few years back a programme on British televison called White Tribe involved Howe taking a trip up to the far north of England to the large city of Newcastle which was still overwhelmingly white. Howe couldn’t really get his head around this. It was as if there was something wrong with the place. He stood outside a football ground at the end of the game while fifty thousand white people poured out of the stadium. We were supposed to feel sympathy for him as the white tide washed around him.
Now that would have been bad enough. Not as bad as being the only black man at a battle recreation. All these white devils in their armour, packing bows, bills and swords. They read the books and then they try to recreate them. Books in which Europeans of distant times are held as men to look up to. What percentage of the readers can make the connection between today and then.?
O flower of Scotland
When will we see
Your like again
That fought and died for
Your wee bit hill and glen
And stood against him
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again.
The hills are bare now
And autumn leaves lie thick and still
O'er land that is lost now
Which those so dearly held
And stood against him
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again
Those days are passed now
And in the past they must remain
But we can still rise now
And be the nation again
And stood against him
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again
This song is just over forty years old. Its become the anthem of Scotland.
Those days are passed now
And in the past they must remain
Why? Because we are civilised now? Maybe those men were more civilised then we are. Because they believed in their own people. To defeat them you had to fight them rather than tickle them into obedience with a few accusations of racism. They met their enemies in a shieldwall, not across a welfare counter.
The Scottish Nationalist Party these days strike me as being the anti White English party because the White English are the only group in Britain that its ok to be ambigious towards.Thats if you’re white Scottish or Welsh. If you’re neither of these either, then the pc gods allow you to be ambigious towards all three. Or rather they insist upon it.
There’s a sort of pc hierarchy with white women lording it over white men, blacks lording it over white women and muslims edging out blacks at the very top of the pc totem poll. Scottish and Welsh white men are fighting it out to finish third from the bottom while English white men are the Partick Thistle of the pc league.
If it was a real Scottish Nationalist Party they would be calling for an end to muslim immigration into Scotland and highlighting how the muslims in Scotland can look after their own no matter what kind of evil they get up to.
The same media cover up racist attacks on whites. Fifteen-year-old Kriss Donald was abducted off the streets of Glasgow by a gang of Muslims. They tortured and repeatedly stabbed him throughout a three hour journey. His end came in a park by the River Clyde where they held his arms and stabbed him 13 times. He sustained internal injuries to three arteries, one of his lungs, his liver and a kidney. He was castrated, had his tongue cut out, was doused in petrol, set on fire and left to die. His last words before they cut his tongue out were: ”I am only fifteen.”
He tried to crawl to the river’s edge to put out the flames, but died just short of the river. The Muslim murderers were protected by members of the local Muslim community in Glasgow. They were smuggled to Manchester Airport and flew to Pakistan but eventually were brought back and sentenced to life imprisonment.
The Scottish Nationalist Party would not even share a debating platform with the BNP during the European Parliament election campaign
We have a similar sort of sham in Ireland. In 2006 we had a big military parade with two thousand soldiers celebrating the 1916 rising against the British at a time when our country is being invaded all over again with any objectors being dismissed as haters and racists by the same people who are all for the rising celebrations. The same people who told us to vote yes to handing away what was left of our sovereignty at the Lisbon referendum and told us the same thing again after a majority of us had voted no.
I’ve never been to any of these recreation battles so I could be wrong when I guess that a lot of these fellows might be inclined to say things like ‘I’m not a racist, ‘ if they felt the need. The books themselves don’t touch on racism. They don’t have too. Europe was not a multicultural place back then and a Viking referring to a Saxon dog is fine and dandy as far as the pc gods are concerned.
There is a connection between today and then.
Continuity and solidarity! A sense of being a link in the continuity that stretches from one’s ancestors to one’s offspring, and therefore of indebtedness to one’s past and of obligation to the future. And growing out of this a profound sense of solidarity with all one’s own kind! It is very necessary that we recognize, and above all feel, that we have roots, that we belong somewhere, to a part of the Earth;
The pc gods have attacked this with savage abandon, especially since Labour came to power in Britain in 1997. The continuity and solidarity of the white British that is.
If these battle recreators really want to get inside the heads of the men whose memory they celebrate, they should try to picture how such men would feel about today’s Britain.
The white men of yesteryear were haters by today’s standards. The Daily Express would be calling them a disgrace to humanity if any of them somehow popped up in 2009. Its ok to recreate their battles where there’s no real killing. Its ok to recreate their battles where they fight against other white men, not against muslim invaders as they did at Potiers and Vienna. But at least they are there. At least they remember.
